Regular Season Round 11: Cocodrilos - Gaiteros 78-77

Fourth-ranked Gaiteros (6-10) gave a tough game to first ranked Cocodrilos (16-4) in Caracas. Cocodrilos managed to secure only one-point victory 78-77. However their fans expected easier game. Strangely Gaiteros outrebounded Cocodrilos 44-32 including 21 on the offensive glass. Gaiteros were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for American forward John Flowers (200-89, college: W.Virginia) who led the winners and scored 25 points and 5 rebounds. International swingman Cesar Garcia (193-90, agency: Pro Sports) accounted for 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. American forward Al Thornton (203-83, college: Florida St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds and swingman Darwin Matos (197-85) added 22 points respectively for Gaiteros in the defeat. Gaiteros' coach Gustavo Garcia tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains first place with 16-4 record. Gaiteros at the other side keep the fourth position with ten games lost. They share it with Marinos. Cocodrilos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Panteras.
