Regular Season Round 11: Toros - Marinos 108-113

The game between closely ranked teams ended with fourth ranked Marinos' (6-10) road victory over 5th ranked Toros (5-13) 113-108 on Wednesday. Marinos dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Toros' 48 and made 30-of-39 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Toros were plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for the former international power forward Hector Romero (202-80, college: New Orleans) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. American-Dominican Antonio Pena (204-86, college: Villanova) helped adding 17 points and 5 rebounds. Four Marinos players scored in double figures. Dominican forward Juan Guerrero (201-93, agency: Basket Management Solutions) responded with 34 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds (on 14-of-15 shooting from the field) and American-Peruvian point guard Kyle Fuller (185-92, college: Vanderbilt) scored 33 points (!!!) and 5 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Marinos maintains fourth place with 6-10 record, which they share with Gaiteros. Loser Toros keep the fifth position with 13 games lost. Marinos will face higher ranked Gigantes (#3) in Puerto Ordaz in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Toros will play on the road against the league's second-placed Bucaneros in La Guaira and hope to win that game.
