Second Stage Round 12: Hoverla - Niko-Basket 97-94

Eighth-ranked Niko-Basket (4-17) made lots of trouble for first ranked Hoverla (16-6) in Frankivsk on Friday. Hoverla managed to secure only three-point victory 97-94. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 10 points after three quarters before their 27-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Hoverla looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Niko-Basket helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was guard Oleksandr Shostuha (192-84) who scored 20 points and 7 assists. Point guard Kyrylo Podkovyrov (180-96) chipped in 20 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Vadim Zaplotinskiy (200-97) who recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds and swingman Maksym Ozhegov (190-90) added 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Five Niko-Basket players scored in double figures. Hoverla have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 16-6 record. Niko-Basket lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth place with 17 games lost. Hoverla are looking forward to face Azovmash (#6) in Mariupol in the next round where they are favorite. Niko-Basket will play at home against Politekhn.Lvov and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
