Regular Season Round 11: Guaros - Gigantes 80-86

There was a minor upset in Barquisimeto where 3rd placed Guaros (10-8) were defeated by third ranked Gigantes (10-10) 86-80 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 6 points. Guaros were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American Quinnel Brown (198-83, college: Auburn) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import guard Ricky Tarrant (188-93, college: Memphis) helped adding 22 points and 5 assists. American Lazar Hayward (225-86, college: Marquette) responded with 19 points and 7 rebounds and international point guard Heissler Guillent (186-86) scored 15 points and 7 assists. Four Guaros players scored in double figures. Gigantes maintains third place with 10-10 record having six points less than leader Guaiqueries which they share with defeated Guaros. Defending champion Guaros keep the third position with eight games lost. Gigantes will face Marinos (#4) in Puerto La Cruz in the next round. Guaros will play at home against the league's leader Guaiqueries and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
