Regular Season Round 29: Gandia - Lucentum 81-75

Bottom-ranked Gandia managed to get a eighth victory, breaking the series of eight consecutive losses. This time newly promoted Gandia won against fourth-ranked Meridiano Alicante 81-75. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 29-17. But Meridiano Alicante won second period 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gandia made 26-of-30 charity shots (86.7 percent) during the game, while Meridiano Alicante only scored eight points from the stripe. Meridiano Alicante was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Guinean forward Cheick-Sekou Conde (203-92) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Montenegrin forward Vladimir Tomasevic (201-92) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Power forward Guillermo Rejon (206-77) answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists and point guard Alvaro Lobo (192-92, agency: Duran International) added 19 points in the effort for Meridiano Alicante. Meridiano Alicante's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Gandia maintains sixteenth place with 8-21 record. Meridiano Alicante at the other side keeps the fourth position with 11 games lost. Gandia will play against higher ranked Zornotza (#6) in Amorebieta-Echano in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Meridiano Alicante will play at home against CB Tarragona 2017 and hopes to get back on the winning track.
