Regular Season Round 27: Holargos - Panionios 76-64

The biggest surprise took place in Holargos where host Holargos (14-13) beat league's leader Panionios (23-4) 76-64 on Wednesday evening. Holargos made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. Holargos had a 30-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by Panionios helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was center Apostolos Koutroulias (206-76) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Akis Kallinikidis (197-77) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Four Holargos players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized Israeli guard Marios Matalon (186-89, college: Wyoming) who recorded 13 points and 4 assists and forward Petros Noeas (204-87) added 12 points respectively. Panionios' coach Nikos Ekonomou rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Holargos moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Ethnikos. Newly promoted Panionios dropped to the second position with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Iraklis. Panionios will play next round against Arkadikos trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Holargos will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Psychiko in Athens.
