Regular Season Round 12: Marinos - Gigantes 94-78
Date: April 19, 2017
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when fourth ranked Marinos (8-10) won against one of their biggest challengers Gigantes (10-12) in Puerto La Cruz 94-78 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 94-78. Marinos dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Gigantes' 36. It was a good game for American point guard Isaiah Swann (188-85, college: Florida St.) who led his team to a victory with 22 points. The former international forward Juan Herrera (197-81) contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American Quinnel Brown (198-83, college: Auburn) replied with 21 points and 8 rebounds and the former international forward Axiers Sucre (199-78) added 11 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Gigantes. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Marinos have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 8-10 record. Loser Gigantes keep the third place with 12 games lost. Marinos will face league's leader Guaiqueries in Porlamar in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Gigantes will play at home against the league's second-placed Bucaneros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
