Fifth-ranked Panteras (5-17) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Cocodrilos (18-4) in Caracas on Thursday. The visitors managed to secure only one-point victory 80-79. However their fans expected much easier game. The winners were led by American forward John Flowers (200-89, college: W.Virginia) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import center Maurice Sutton (211-89, college: Villanova) supported him with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Cocodrilos' coach Nestor Salazar used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Even a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds by the former international power forward Luis Julio (201-80) did not help to save the game for Panteras. American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) added 16 points and 6 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Four Panteras players scored in double figures. Cocodrilos have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 18-4 record. Panteras lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with 17 games lost. Cocodrilos will meet at home Toros (#5) in the next round. Panteras will play against Gaiteros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
