Regular Season Round 12: Gaiteros - Trotamundos 88-90

Fourth-ranked Gaiteros (6-12) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Trotamundos (13-9) in Maracaibo. The visitors from Valencia managed to secure only two-point victory 90-88. However their fans expected easier game. The best player for the winners was American forward Josh Powell (206-83, college: N.Carolina St.) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). The former international point guard David Cubillan (181-87, college: Marquette, agency: Pro Sports) chipped in 23 points and 4 assists. Four Trotamundos players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Al Thornton (203-83, college: Florida St.) who recorded 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Eugene Harris (187-86, college: High Point) added 22 points and 6 assists respectively. Trotamundos used an opportunity after Guaiqueries lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Gaiteros lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with 12 games lost. Trotamundos' next round opponent will be Guaros (#3) in Barquisimeto, which may be the game of the day. Gaiteros will play on the road against Panteras in Caracas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
