Regular Season Round 28: Lanzarote - Gran Canaria B 70-77

Not a big story in a game when 12th ranked Lanzarote (10-17) lost to eighth ranked Gran Canaria B (15-13) in Arrecife 70-77 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 11 points after first quarter, but they rallied back winning next two quarters and won the game by 7 points. Gran Canaria B dominated on the defensive end, holding Lanzarote to just 7 points in second quarter. Strangely Lanzarote outrebounded Gran Canaria B 37-23 including 23 on the defensive glass. It was a very good performance for Arturo Fernandez (193-95) who helped to win the game recording 17 points. Alberto Padron (192-98) contributed with 13 points for the winners. Gran Canaria B's coach Rafael Arocha used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Pamor Diene (208-98) replied with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocks and forward Alejandro Viera (198-93) added 17 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Lanzarote. Gran Canaria B moved-up to seventh place in Group B, which they share with Villarrobledo. Newly promoted Lanzarote keeps the twelfth position with 17 games lost. Gran Canaria B will face league's second-placed Real Canoe in Madrid in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Lanzarote will play on the road against Alcobendas (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
