Regular Season Round 28: Cantbasket - Venta de Banos 87-77

Very expected game when 15th ranked Venta de Banos (2-22) lost to second ranked Cantbasket (18-6) in Santander 77-87 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 87-77. Cantbasket forced 22 Venta de Banos turnovers and outrebounded them 33-17 including a 23-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for American forward Paul Larsen (198-92, college: USC Aiken) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds. The other American import forward Lleon Tillman (198-92, college: W.Alabama) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Cantbasket's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Estonian Robert Valge (192-97) replied with 24 points and South Sudanese forward Slay Chol (203-90, college: Trevecca Naz.) added 19 points in the effort for Venta de Banos. Four Venta de Banos players scored in double figures. Cantbasket maintains second position in Group A-A with 18-6 record having four points less than leader Chantada. Venta de Banos lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth place with 22 games lost. Cantbasket will face Valle de Egues (#8) in Olaz in the next round where they are favorite. Venta de Banos will play at home against the league's leader Estela (#1) and hope to win that game.
