Regular Season Round 8: SW Slammers - Mandurah M. 87-71

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Magic (0-6) lost to twelfth ranked Slammers (2-3) in Bunbury 71-87 on Saturday. Magic was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American-Irish forward Brian Voelkel (198-92, college: Vermont, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 14 rebounds and 9 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). American guard Tre Nichols (180-89, college: Boise St., agency: SDJ Sports) contributed with 30 points for the winners. Four Slammers players scored in double figures. American guard Will McNeill (185-90, college: Washburn) replied with 17 points and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import swingman Ricky Kreklow (201-92, college: Creighton) added 19 points in the effort for Magic. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Slammers moved-up to eleventh place in League. Loser Magic still closes the standings with six games lost. Slammers will face higher ranked Tigers (#4) in Willetton in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Magic will play on the road against Wanneroo (#3) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
