Second Stage Round 13: Niko-Basket - Politekhn.Lvov 78-95

Very expected game when 8th ranked Niko-Basket (5-18) lost to second ranked Politekhn.Lvov (15-9) in Mykolaiv 78-95 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Politekhn.Lvov. Niko-Basket was better in second period 24-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Niko-Basket 48-37 including 16 on the offensive glass. Politekhn.Lvov looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Politekhn.Lvov made 11 blocks. It was a very good performance for swingman Denys Tiutiunyk (195-92) who helped to win the game recording 28 points and 5 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Center Roman Novikov (204-92, agency: AproK Sports Group) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Four Politekhn.Lvov players scored in double figures. Swingman Maksym Ozhegov (190-90) answered with 21 points, 6 assists and 5 steals and forward Sergiy Vershinin (195-95) added 14 points and 4 assists in the effort for Niko-Basket. Niko-Basket's coach Valentin Berestnev tested eleven players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Politekhn.Lvov. They maintain second place with 15-9 record having just three points less than leader Dnipro-2, which they share with Khimik-2 and Krivbas-2. Niko-Basket lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the seventh position with 18 games lost. Politekhn.Lvov will face Zolotoi Vek (#5) in Kirovograd in the next round. Niko-Basket will play on the road against Khimik-2 in Yuzhny and hope to win that game.
