Regular Season Round 28: Iraklis - Aiolos Astakou 68-66

Fifth-ranked Aiolos Astakou (17-11) was very close to win a game against first ranked Iraklis (25-3) in Thessaloniki on Saturday. Iraklis managed to secure only two-point victory 68-66. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Aiolos Astakou. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Aiolos Astakou won fourth quarter 21-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Iraklis dominated on the defensive end, holding Aiolos Astakou to just 7 points in third quarter. 24 personal fouls committed by Aiolos Astakou helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Vasilis Angelakopoulos (203-79) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Lithuanian Ronaldas Rutkauskas (203-92) contributed with 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Iraklis players scored in double figures. Forward Vassilis Kitsoulis (204-83) replied with 11 points and guard Nikos Katsares (189-83) added 7 points and 5 assists in the effort for Aiolos Astakou. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Iraklis have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 25-3 record. Newly promoted Aiolos Astakou keeps the fifth place with 11 games lost. Iraklis are looking forward to face Faros (#4) in Keratsiniou in the next round. Aiolos Astakou will play at home against AE Larissas and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
