There was a minor upset in Maracay where 5th ranked Toros (6-17) were defeated by fifth ranked Panteras (7-17) 82-73 on Friday. The best player for the winners was American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) who scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. The former international forward Jhon Romero (199-85) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. American-Peruvian point guard Kyle Fuller (185-92, college: Vanderbilt) produced 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Dominican guard Kelvin Pena (193-80, college: Southeastern CC, agency: Basket Management Solutions) added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Panteras maintains fifth position with 7-17 record which they share with defeated Toros. Toros lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with 17 games lost. Panteras will face higher ranked Gigantes (#3) in Puerto Ordaz in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Toros will play at home against Gaiteros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
