There was a minor upset when leader Cocodrilos (21-7) lost to first ranked Guaiqueries (18-10) in Porlamar 82-86 on Thursday. It was a key game for the top position in the league. American players dominated the game. It was a good game for forward Marcus Melvin (206-82, college: N.Carolina St.) who led his team to a victory with 27 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Devan Downey (175-87, college: S.Carolina, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Forward John Flowers (200-89, college: W.Virginia) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds and center Maurice Sutton (211-89, college: Villanova) added 17 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Cocodrilos. Four Guaiqueries and five Cocodrilos players scored in double figures. Cocodrilos' coach Nestor Salazar rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Guaiqueries. They maintain first place with 18-10 record which they share with defeated Cocodrilos. Defending champion Cocodrilos still keep top position with seven games lost. Guaiqueries will face Panteras (#5) in Caracas in the next round. Cocodrilos will play at home against the league's second-placed Trotamundos (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
