Regular Season Round 15: Guaiqueries - Cocodrilos 95-81

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of Cocodrilos (21-7) in Porlamar on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by Guaiqueries (18-10) 95-81. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Guaiqueries shot 61.8 percent from the field and made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Guaiqueries outrebounded Cocodrilos 30-14 including a 24-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for American forward Marcus Melvin (206-82, college: N.Carolina St.) who led his team to a victory with 30 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). The former international swingman Cesar Silva (190-81) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Guaiqueries players scored in double figures. American center Maurice Sutton (211-89, college: Villanova) answered with 19 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import forward John Flowers (200-89, college: W.Virginia) added 18 points in the effort for Cocodrilos. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guaiqueries have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 18-10 record which they share with defeated Cocodrilos. Defending champion Cocodrilos still keep top position with seven games lost. Guaiqueries are looking forward to face Panteras (#5) in Caracas in the next round. Cocodrilos will play at home against the league's second-placed Trotamundos (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
