Regular Season Round 15: Toros - Gaiteros 89-86

A very interesting game took place in Maracay. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Gaiteros (6-16) to fourth ranked Toros (8-17) 89-86 in the fight for the fourth place. Toros brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was Dominican guard Kelvin Pena (193-80, college: Southeastern CC, agency: Basket Management Solutions) who scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Dominican forward Juan Guerrero (201-93, agency: Basket Management Solutions) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Al Thornton (203-83, college: Florida St.) who recorded 37 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and British V.Islands power forward Lester Prosper (208-88, college: Old Westbury, agency: Interperformances) added 15 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Toros maintains fourth place with 8-17 record. Gaiteros lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the fifth position with 16 games lost. Toros' next round opponent will be higher ranked Gigantes (#3) in Puerto Ordaz and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gaiteros will play on the road against Marinos in Puerto La Cruz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
