Regular Season Round 15: Guaros - Marinos 98-91

The game between closely ranked teams ended with third ranked Guaros' (16-10) home victory over 4th placed Marinos (10-14) in Barquisimeto 98-91 on Friday. Guaros looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Marinos' players. Marinos were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for international point guard Heissler Guillent (186-86) who led his team to a victory with 16 points and 5 assists. American Lazar Hayward (225-86, college: Marquette) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: BeoBasket) answered with 16 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots) and American point guard Isaiah Swann (188-85, college: Florida St.) added 22 points in the effort for Marinos. Five Guaros and four Marinos players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Guaros. Defending champion maintains third place with 16-10 record having seven points less than leader Guaiqueries. Marinos lost their third game in a row. They keep the fourth position with 14 games lost. Guaros will face league's second-placed Bucaneros in La Guaira in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Marinos will play at home against Gaiteros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
