Regular Season Round 16: Toros - Gigantes 82-77

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Maracay where one of their biggest challengers Gigantes (13-17) were defeated by fourth ranked Toros (10-17) 82-77 on Monday. The hosts trailed by 15 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 5 points. Worth to mention a great performance of Dominican guard Kelvin Pena (193-80, college: Southeastern CC, agency: Basket Management Solutions) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 6 assists and the former international center Alejandro Barrios (204-79) who added 15 points during the contest. At the losing side the former international forward Axiers Sucre (199-78) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists and American Quinnel Brown (198-83, college: Auburn) scored 27 points. Five Toros and four Gigantes players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Toros have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 10-17 record. Gigantes lost third consecutive game. They keep the third place with 17 games lost. Toros will face league's leader Guaiqueries in Porlamar in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Gigantes will play at home against Gaiteros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
