Regular Season Round 17: Guaros - Cocodrilos 79-63

Top ranked Cocodrilos (23-9) recorded its ninth loss in Barquisimeto on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by second ranked Guaros (19-11) 79-63. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Guaros. Cocodrilos managed to win fourth quarter 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Cocodrilos 40-24 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Guaros looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard Nate Robinson (175-84, college: Washington) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 assists. International center Gregory Echenique (206-90, college: Creighton, agency: Pensack Sports) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. Four Guaros players scored in double figures. American forward John Flowers (200-89, college: W.Virginia) produced 17 points and the other American import center Maurice Sutton (211-89, college: Villanova) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guaros have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 19-11 record having six points less than leader Guaiqueries. Defending champion Cocodrilos still keep top position with nine games lost. Guaros are looking forward to face Gaiteros (#5) in Maracaibo in the next round. Cocodrilos will have a break next round.
