Regular Season Round 19: Panteras - Guaros 98-92

The game between second ranked Guaros (22-12) and fifth ranked Panteras (11-21) was the most important one in the last round on Friday night. Guaros were defeated by Panteras in a tough game in Caracas 92-98. The hosts trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they rallied back winning next two quarters and won the game by 6 points. Panteras made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Panteras outrebounded Guaros 43-30 including a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Guaros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for American Trey Gilder (206-85, college: Northwestern St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Kareem Canty (185-93, college: Auburn) helped adding 21 points. At the losing side American point guard Nate Robinson (175-84, college: Washington) responded with 29 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and international center Gregory Echenique (206-90, college: Creighton, agency: Pensack Sports) scored 16 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panteras maintains fifth place with 11-21 record. Defending champion Guaros keep the second position with 12 games lost. Panteras are looking forward to face Gaiteros (#5) in Maracaibo in the next round. Guaros will have a break next round.
