Regular Season Round 19: Gaiteros - Marinos 84-112

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Gaiteros' (7-24) home loss to fourth ranked Marinos (16-17) 84-112 on Friday. The game without a history. Marinos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Gaiteros' 44. Marinos looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 21 passes made by Gaiteros' players. It was a great evening for American power forward Christophe Massie (206-77, college: Memphis) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). His fellow American import point guard Isaiah Swann (188-85, college: Florida St.) helped adding 15 points and 7 assists. Four Marinos players scored in double figures. Marinos' coach Tony Ruiz felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the losing side the former international forward Hernan Salcedo (198-80) responded with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and British V.Islands power forward Lester Prosper (208-88, college: Old Westbury, agency: Interperformances) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Marinos have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. Gaiteros lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 24 games lost. Marinos will face league's leader Cocodrilos in Caracas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gaiteros will play at home against the league's second-placed Bucaneros (#2) and hope to win that game.
