Regular Season Round 15: Joondalup Wolves - Kalamunda E.S. 98-93
Date: June 11, 2017
Very expected game in Joondalup where 13th ranked Suns (4-16) were defeated by third ranked Wanneroo (12-4) 98-93 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 10 points after three quarters before their 32-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Wanneroo looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Wanneroo made 7 blocks. Suns were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was naturalized Greek guard Trian Iliadis (190-89, college: ODU) who scored 35 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Canadian power forward Ryan Wright (206-87, college: Oklahoma) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Courtney Belger (187-89, college: Quincy) who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import guard Rob Brandenberg (188-92, college: VCU) added 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Four Suns players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Wanneroo maintains third place in League with 12-4 record having just fourteen point less than leader Mackay M. Loser Suns keep the thirteenth position with 16 games lost. Wanneroo will face Eagles (#10) in Morley in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Suns will play on the road against Giants in Kalgoorlie and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
