Liga DirecTV round 17 most important game was a victory of Piratas over 7th ranked Patriotas 97-85 on Tuesday night. The game was mostly controlled by Piratas. Patriotas managed to win fourth quarter 26-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Patriotas 51-23 including a 30-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. Piratas looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. Venezuelan forward Jhon Romero (199-85) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists. American guard Brandon Givens (198-87, college: NC-Wesleyan) contributed with 30 points for the winners. Givens is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Piratas players scored in double figures. American swingman Robert Crawford (201-90, college: Cent.Arkansas) answered with 31 points and 7 assists and the other American import forward Frisco Sandidge (198-87, college: Delaware St.) added 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks in the effort for Patriotas. Piratas (5-12) moved-up to seventh place. Patriotas lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with 13 games lost. Piratas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Patriotas will play again at home against Piratas (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
