Regular Season Round 19: Canberra G. - Bendigo B. 111-107

There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Canberra Gunners (3-15) won against 4th placed Bendigo Braves (9-10) in Belconnen 111-107 on Saturday. Canberra Gunners outrebounded Bendigo Braves 46-31 including a 36-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a very good performance for center Ben Allen (211-86, college: St.Mary's, CA) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 28 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists. Glenn Morison contributed with 20 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Five Canberra Gunners players scored in double figures. American guard Dyami Starks (188-92, college: Bryant) answered with 49 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import power forward CJ Aiken (206-90, college: St.Joseph's) added 25 points in the effort for Bendigo Braves. Canberra Gunners maintains seventh place in League with 3-15 record. Loser Bendigo Braves keep the fourth position with ten games lost. Canberra Gunners will face league's leader Mount Gambier Pioneers in Mt Gambier in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bendigo Braves will play at home against Sabres and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
