Regular Season Round 21: Piratas - Sabios 95-78

Sabios (#4) were upset in Bogota by seventh ranked Piratas 95-78. Piratas outrebounded Sabios 51-40 including a 23-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Sabios were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Brandon Givens (198-87, college: NC-Wesleyan) nailed 43 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds for the winning side and Venezuelan swingman Jesus Medina (188-94) accounted for 19 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Givens is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Canadian guard Ashton Smith (187-89, college: Indiana, PA) came up with 28 points and 7 rebounds and Canadian guard Shamar Coombs (185-86, college: Texas A&M-CC) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Sabios in the defeat. Sabios' coach Ruddy Martinez rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Piratas have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain seventh place with 8-13 record. Sabios at the other side keep the fourth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Condores. Piratas will again play against higher ranked Sabios (#4) in Manizales in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sabios will have a break next round.
