Second Stage Round 2: Metros STGO - Indios SFM 78-80

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Metros STGO (3-1) in Santiago on Friday night. Hosts were edged by Indios SFM (1-2) 80-78. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-17. But Metros STGO won second period 22-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Indios SFM forced 22 Metros STGO turnovers. Strangely Metros STGO outrebounded Indios SFM 46-26 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Sterling Gibbs (188-92, college: Connecticut, agency: Interperformances) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 assists. Naturalized American guard Gerardo Suero (196-89, college: Albany) contributed with 22 points for the winners. Four Indios SFM players scored in double figures. Victor Liz (193-86) replied with 22 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Adris De-Leon (180-84, college: E.Washington) added 17 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Metros STGO. Metros STGO's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Indios SFM is looking forward to face Huracanes PP (#3) in Puerto Plata in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Metros STGO will play at home against Huracanes PP and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
