Regular Season Round 16: Beijing - Fujian 121-101

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 10th ranked Fujian (7-9) was smashed on the road by eleventh ranked Beijing (6-10) 121-101 on Sunday. The game without a history. Beijing led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Beijing outrebounded Fujian 52-24 including a 33-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Quite impressive performance for American center Michael Holyfield (211-92, college: Sam Houston St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!) and 27 rebounds (on 17-of-19 shooting from the field). The other American import guard Marquis Weddle (185-88, college: W.Virg.Wesl.) contributed with 38 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American forward LaQuinton Ross (203-92, college: Ohio St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and Jian Dong added 23 points in the effort for Fujian. Four Beijing and five Fujian players scored in double figures. Fujian's coach Jiulong Liu gave the chance to play for eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Beijing maintains eleventh position with 6-10 record. Fujian lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with nine games lost. Beijing will face league's leader Henan at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
