Paulista top team - Vivo/Franca (7-1) added another victory to their record on Wednesday. This time they beat seventh ranked America (2-5) in Rio Preto 74-70. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-10. But America won second period 16-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vivo/Franca made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was the former international Jefferson Andrade (207-83) who scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. The former international Lucas Cipolini (206-86, college: BYU-Hawaii) chipped in 4 points and 13 rebounds. American guard Justin Knight (185, college: Gwynedd-Mercy) produced 20 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import point guard Darnell Artis (175, college: Gwynedd-Mercy) added 15 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Vivo/Franca have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 7-1 record. Loser America keeps the seventh position with five games lost. Vivo/Franca will meet Paschoalotto/Bauru (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. America will play against Paschoalotto/Bauru and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
