Regular Season Round 1: Sammic ISB - Coruna 72-71

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Leyma Basquet (0-1) in Azpeitia. Visitors were edged by Sammic ISB (1-0) 72-71. It looked good early as Leyma Basquet took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Sammic ISB had a 20-11 second period charge getting the lead and Leyma Basquet was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 71-72. Guard Aitor Zubizarreta (190-95, college: Idaho Coll.) nailed 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and power forward Marcos Portalez (204-95) accounted for 8 points and 8 rebounds. Point guard Jorge Sanz (188-93) came up with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and naturalized Russian power forward Dmitriy Flis (204-84) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Leyma Basquet in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Sammic ISB will play against Oviedo CB (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Leyma Basquet will play against Araberri (#1) to get more than just one victory in their record.
