Regular Season Round 3: Gijon - Marin 61-77

Marin used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Gijon 77-61 on Saturday night. The hosts trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 77-61. Marin forced 20 Gijon turnovers and outrebounded them 45-26 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for American center Brent Calhoun (206-93, college: IPFW, agency: Court Side) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks. Forward Gerard Sevillano (196-94) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Four Marin players scored in double figures. American swingman James Pegues (198-93, college: Newman) answered with 21 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and guard Alejandro Rubiera (190-98) added 14 points in the effort for Gijon. Marin will face Betanzos on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gijon will play against Leon (#4) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
