Regular Season Round 4: Hitachi SR - San-en 66-72

There was a small surprise when sixth ranked San-en NeoPhoenix (1-2) defeated one of their biggest challengers Hitachi Sunrockers (1-2) in Tokyo 72-66 on Saturday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. San-en NeoPhoenix made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. It was a very good performance for American swingman Cartier Martin (201-84, college: Kansas St.) who helped to win the game recording 26 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). Canadian center Scott Morrison (213-86, college: Portland St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Canadian center Robert Sacre (213-89, college: Gonzaga) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds and international point guard Leo Vendrame (183-93) added 18 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Hitachi Sunrockers. San-en NeoPhoenix left bottom position moving up to third place, which they share with 6 other teams including defeated Hitachi Sunrockers. San-en NeoPhoenix will have a break next round. Hitachi Sunrockers will play again at home against San-en NeoPhoenix and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
