Regular Season Round 2: Taipans - 36ers 70-96

Date: October 12, 2017
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Cairns Taipans (2-1) at the home court on Thursday night. Hosts were rolled over by Adelaide 36ers (2-75) 96-70. Adelaide 36ers looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Cairns Taipans' players. 26 personal fouls committed by Cairns Taipans helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international power forward Daniel Johnson (210-88, college: Pepperdine) orchestrated the victory by scoring 32 points. International swingman Mitch Creek (195-92) contributed with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Guard Damon Heuir (189-91, college: S.Utah) replied with 13 points and 5 rebounds and the former international swingman Stephen Weigh (202-87) added 11 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Cairns Taipans. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Adelaide 36ers are looking forward to face Kings (#6) in Sydney in the next round. Cairns Taipans will play at home against Perth Wildcats and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
