Maccabi Haifa (0-1) recorded a loss on the court of Maccabi Ashdod on Wednesday night. Visitors were rolled over by Maccabi Ashdod 90-61. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi Ashdod. Maccabi Haifa managed to win fourth quarter 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Maccabi Haifa 43-16 including a 29-10 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Maccabi Ashdod especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. American power forward David Laury (206-90, college: Iona) scored 18 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and international swingman Adam Ariel (192-94, agency: Avi Zilberman) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Naturalized American Willy Workman (198-90, college: Amherst) responded with 11 points and 6 rebounds and Puerto Rican point guard Angel Rodriguez (180-92, college: Miami, FL) scored 11 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Maccabi Ashdod will meet Maccabi Rishon (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Maccabi Haifa will play against Ironi Nes-Ziona and hope to win that game.
