Regular Season Round 5: Schalke - ETB Wohnbau 70-63

Undefeated leader Schalke delivered the fifth consecutive victory on Saturday night. This time they beat 6th ranked ETB Wohnbau (2-3) 70-63. Schalke made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. Schalke outrebounded ETB Wohnbau 54-37 including 22 on the offensive glass. ETB Wohnbau was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was naturalized American forward Shawn Gulley (201-93, college: Temple JC) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Courtney Belger (187-89, college: Quincy) chipped in 21 points and 7 rebounds. Canadian Nick Tufegdzich (203-92) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds and American guard Montrael Scott (190-93, college: Prairie View A&M) added 15 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Schalke (5-0) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place in North with a perfect record of 5 victories in a row. ETB Wohnbau lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with three games lost. Schalke will face Herzoege Wolfenbuettel (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. ETB Wohnbau will play against RSV Eintracht in Stahnsdorf and hope to win that game and get promotion back to the ProA just one year after relegation.
