The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Universidad de Concepcion as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Universidad de Concepcion smashed much higher ranked Deportivo Valdivia at home 82-61. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Deportivo Valdivia. It was a key game for the top position in the league. They outrebounded Deportivo Valdivia 50-32 including a 36-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Venezuelan center Luis Carrillo (206-93) who led his team to a victory scoring 9 points and 17 rebounds. Universidad de Concepcion's coach Santiago Gomez felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American-Nigerian Bryant Mbamalu (191-91, college: La-Lafayette) responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds and American-Panamanian center Javier Carter (203-91, college: S.Alabama) scored 11 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Universidad de Concepcion have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with 3 other teams. Deportivo Valdivia at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost. Deportivo Valdivia will play next round against strong Espanol de Talca trying to get back on the winning streak.
