No shocking result in a game when third ranked Al-Nweidrat (6-1) beat 10th ranked Al-Bahrain (2-5) in Manama 77-59 on Wednesday. They outrebounded Al-Bahrain 39-28 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Al-Nweidrat looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Bosnian-Serbian center Mile Ilic (215-84) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 20 rebounds. Ebrahim Albasri accounted for 18 points for the winning side. Khalid Ali came up with 15 points and 5 assists and American forward Merrill Holden (203-93, college: Iowa St., agency: SDJ Sports) added 9 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Al-Bahrain in the defeat. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Al-Nweidrat. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Al-Ahli. Loser Al-Bahrain keeps the tenth place with five games lost. Al-Nweidrat will meet at home bottom-ranked Samaheej (#13) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Al-Bahrain's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Manama to the arena Al-Ittihad.
