Regular Season Round 9: Sendai 89ers - Fukushima 75-77

A very interesting game took place in Sendai. It ended with only two-point home defeat of 3rd placed Sendai 89ers (4-5) to second ranked Fukushima (7-2) 77-75 in the game for the second place. Fukushima made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They brought some defensive toughness making 10 blocks. Point guard Shinya Murakami (172-91) nailed 13 points and 4 assists for the winning side and Nigerian center Solomon Alabi (216-88, college: Florida St.) accounted for 11 points, 8 rebounds and 7 blocks. Nigerian-Canadian Olu Ashaolu (200-88, college: Oregon) came up with 23 points and guard Shuto Mizoguchi (187-87) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Sendai 89ers in the defeat. Five Fukushima and four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers' coach Toshihiro Goto rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Fukushima. They maintain second place with 7-2 record behind leader Gunma, which they share with Ehime OV. Sendai 89ers at the other side keep the third position with five games lost. Fukushima's next round opponent will be Cyberdyne IR (#4) in Tsukuba. Sendai 89ers will play on the road against the league's leader Akita Happinets and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
