Regular Season Round 5: Hamar - Breidablik 96-90

There was a change at the D1 leadership position after last games. Round 5 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Breidablik (4-1). They were defeated by seventh ranked Hamar (2-2) 96-90 on Friday night. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Breidablik. Hamar looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American guard Larry Thomas (185-93, college: Birm.Southern) stepped up and scored 29 points and 4 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) for the winners and his fellow American import guard Julian Nelson (196, college: Coker) chipped in 13 points and 11 rebounds. Thomas is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Hamar's coach Ingvarsson Petur used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Jeremy Smith (190, college: Nicholls St.) responded with 30 points and 7 rebounds and guard Ragnar Ragnarsson (188-97) scored 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Breidablik players scored in double figures. Hamar moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Snaefell and Gnupverjar. Breidablik at the other side dropped to the second position with one game lost. They share it with Vestri. They were replaced at the leadership position by Skallagrimur. Breidablik will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Hamar will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Vestri on the road.
