Regular Season Round 5: GOCOR-Sozh - Brest 78-71

Bottom-ranked Brest (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 78-71 loss to seventh ranked GOCOR-Sozh (3-2) in Gomel on Friday evening. The hosts trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 27-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Swingman Evgeniy Rybkin (195-96) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and point guard Tsimafei Viaroukin (186-93) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds. Four GOCOR-Sozh players scored in double figures. Kirill Vinokurov responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds and swingman Aleksandr Tur (191-96) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. GOCOR-Sozh moved-up to fourth place. Brest lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. GOCOR-Sozh will again meet at home bottom-ranked Brest (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Brest will have a break next round.
