Regular Season Round 4: Cretan Kings - Lavrio 73-95

Everything could happen in Rethymno at the game between two tied teams. Both twelfth ranked Lavrio and 9th ranked Cretan Kings had identical 1-2 record. But Cretan Kings was not able to use a home court advantage and was crushed by the opponent from Lavrio 95-73 on Saturday night. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 95-73. Lavrio dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Cretan Kings' 26. They outrebounded Cretan Kings 41-21 including a 28-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Lavrio shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a very good performance for American Steven Gray (196-89, college: Gonzaga) who helped to win the game recording 25 points. The other American import point guard Zamal Nixon (186-89, college: Houston, agency: Two Points) contributed with 16 points and 5 assists for the winners. Forward Haralampos Giannopoulos (200-89) replied with 19 points and American forward Shaquille Goodwin (206-94, college: Memphis) added 9 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Cretan Kings. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Lavrio (2-2) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Cretan Kings dropped to the eleventh position with three games lost. Lavrio will face higher ranked Kolossos HH (#5) in Rodou in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Cretan Kings will play on the road against Olympiacos (#3) in Pireus and hope to win that game.
