Regular Season Round 5: Palermo GB - Olginate 44-72

There was no surprise when 14th ranked Palermo GB (1-4) was crushed at home by eighth ranked Olginate (3-2) 72-44 on Sunday. Olginate held Palermo GB to an opponent 22.4 percent shooting from the field compared to 44.4 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Palermo GB 42-29 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was power forward Andrea Bassani (198-89) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 17 rebounds. Forward Marco Planezio (198-91, agency: Players Group) chipped in 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Olginate players scored in double figures. Naturalized German power forward Raphael Strotz (204-93) produced 9 points and 6 rebounds and guard Andrea Lombardo (197-90) added 3 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Olginate moved-up to fourth place in B, which they share with 5 other teams. Palermo GB at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the thirteenth position with four games lost. Olginate will face league's leader Cento at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Palermo GB will play against the league's second-placed Crema (#2) and hope to win that game.
