There was no surprise when 10th ranked FC Bayern II (1-6) lost to sixth ranked Bayer Giants (4-3) in Leverkusen 59-67 on Tuesday. Bayer Giants forced 19 FC Bayern II turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Bayer Giants made 9 blocks. FC Bayern II was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for American forward Bruce Beckford (203-94, college: N.Carolina A&T) who helped to win the game recording 13 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Donovon Jack (206-93, college: Penn St.) contributed with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 7 blocks for the winners. Bayer Giants' coach Achim Kuczmann allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Austrian forward Marvin Ogunsipe (204-96) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds and Karim Jallow (199-97) added 17 points in the effort for FC Bayern II. Bayer Giants moved-up to fifth place in South, which they share with Fraport SKY II and Giessen 46ers II. Loser FC Bayern II keeps the tenth position with six games lost. Bayer Giants will face league's leader Elchingen on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. FC Bayern II will play against Fraport Skyliners II (#6) and hope to win that game.
