Regular Season Round 8: Al-Ahli - Al-Riffa 72-66

Date: November 2, 2017
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Al-Ahli as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Al-Ahli defeated 7th ranked Al-Riffa in Manama 72-66. Al-Ahli forced 19 Al-Riffa turnovers. Strangely Al-Riffa outrebounded Al-Ahli 40-27 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Hussain Shaker who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 7 assists and American forward Quinton Doggett (206-90, college: Southern) who added 11 points and 15 rebounds during the contest. Four Al-Ahli players scored in double figures. American-New Zealand forward Marcel Jones (203-85, college: Oregon St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds and Ali Asghar scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. Al-Riffa's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Al-Ahli (7-1) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Al-Nweidrat. Newly promoted Al-Riffa keeps the seventh place with four games lost. They share the position with Sitra and Al-Najma. Al-Riffa will play next round against Al-Najma trying to get back on the winning streak. Al-Ahli will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Al-Nweidrat in Nuwaidrat.
