Very important is a home loss of second ranked Academik Plovdiv (3-2) against sixth ranked Lukoil Acad. (3-1) on Saturday night. Host Academik Plovdiv was defeated by Lukoil Acad. in Plovdiv 81-66. It was a key game for the second position in the league. It looked good early as Academik Plovdiv took a 11-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Lukoil Acad. took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 15 points. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Academik Plovdiv's players. American Dalton Pepper (196-90, college: Temple) stepped up and scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and his fellow American import forward Justin Knox (205-89, college: N.Carolina, agency: Two Points) chipped in 15 points and 12 rebounds. Knox is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Lukoil Acad.'s coach Sharon Drucker allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American point guard Isiah Umipig (183-92, college: Seattle) responded with 21 points, 6 assists and 4 steals and Senegalese-Spanish center Maodo Nguirane (210-93) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Beroe. Academik Plovdiv at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with Levski 2014 and Rilski. Lukoil Acad. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Academik Plovdiv will play on the road against Cherno More (#8) in Varna and hopes to get back on the winning track.
