Regular Season Round 11: Hitachi Cougars - Denso Iris 66-67

The most exciting game of round 11 in the WJBL took place in Hitachinaka. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 8th ranked Hitachi Cougars (4-7) to fourth ranked Denso Iris (8-3) 67-66 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 16-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Denso Iris forced 19 Hitachi Cougars turnovers. 26 personal fouls committed by Hitachi Cougars helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for the former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 16 rebounds. The former international center Sakura Akaho (182-96) helped adding 9 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Yagi Kasumi (163-92) responded with 11 points and guard Aya Tsurumi (164-92) scored 7 points and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Denso Iris have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Chanson V-M and Mitsubishi K. Hitachi Cougars lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with seven games lost. Denso Iris will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hitachi Cougars will play again on the road against Denso Iris (#3) in Kariya and are hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
