Regular Season Round 5: Doukas - Psychiko 77-83

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Psychiko (#7) and Doukas (#15). Despite it looked like an easy game for Psychiko, those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. Host Doukas challenged much higher ranked Psychiko giving them a very tough game, but finally losing it by six points 83-77. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-14. But Doukas won second period 15-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Psychiko looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was center Nikos Tsiokos (207-91) who scored 27 points and 6 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Point guard Thomas Nikou (185-80) chipped in 9 points and 15 assists. Guard Alexis Kiritsis (198-82) produced 23 points and 6 rebounds and guard Themis Koupidis (198-84) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Psychiko (3-2) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Doxa Lefkadas. Loser Doukas dropped to the fourteenth position with four games lost. They share it with Arkadikos and Karditsas. Psychiko will meet at home league's second-placed Holargos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Doukas will play against Ethnikos (#12) in Pireus and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
