Regular Season Round 14: CDU Catolica - CDE Talca 95-92

The most exciting game of round 14 in the Liga Nacional took place in Santiago. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 3rd ranked Espanol de Talca (8-7) to sixth ranked Universidad Catolica (6-9) 95-92 on Sunday evening. Universidad Catolica dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Espanol de Talca's 38. They outrebounded Espanol de Talca 39-26 including 25 on the defensive glass. Universidad Catolica looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American guard Malik Morgan (193-94, college: Tulane) had a triple-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Aaron Nelson (203-91, college: S.Indiana) chipped in 25 points and 15 rebounds during the contest. American forward Terrence Shannon (203-79, college: Elgin CC) responded with 19 points and the former international guard Eduardo Sepulveda (186-86) scored 17 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Universidad Catolica have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Defending champion Espanol de Talca dropped to the second position with seven games lost. They share it with CDU Concepcion. Universidad Catolica are looking forward to face league's second-placed Deportivo Valdivia at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Espanol de Talca will play against Osorno Basquetbol and is hoping to win this game.
