Balkan League round 5 most important game was a victory of FYR Macedonian Blokotehna over 3rd placed Bulgarian Academik Plovdiv 86-82 on Tuesday night. The guests trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 49-37 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Blokotehna made 24-of-28 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game, while Academik Plovdiv only scored two points from the stripe. American forward Dwayne Benjamin (201-93, college: Oregon) orchestrated the victory by scoring 31 points and 7 rebounds. Serbian power forward Danilo Mijatovic (206-83) contributed with 22 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Blokotehna players scored in double figures. American point guard Shakir Smith (185-92, college: Adams St.) answered with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Adriyan Sekulov (179-96) added 22 points in the effort for Academik Plovdiv. Newly promoted Blokotehna maintains second place with 4-1 record having just one point less than leader Rilski. Academik Plovdiv at the other side keeps the third position with two games lost. They share it with SK Tirana. Blokotehna are looking forward to face Kumanovo (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Academik Plovdiv will play against Bashkimi (#6) in Prizren and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
